Job Description

This position is suitable for persons with limited experience in the detection of defects based on IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards. It can also apply to entry-level Inspectors, but such persons are expected to gain basic proficiency in the skills listed below in a reasonable amount of time. It is the responsibility of the Inspector I to actively work on gaining skill and knowledge of the requirements set out below. Personnel who master the skills listed below and meet the requirements of the job description for Inspector II to a reasonable degree may be eligible for promotion to that position.

Skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of an Inspector I position:

- Basic understanding of IPC-A-610 requirements for solder quality and workmanship
- Use magnifying lamp, microscope & Automated Optical Inspection (A.O.I.) equipment
- Identification of component parts, such as resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, etc., including their value, part number, and polarity (if applicable)
- Good visual acuity, either with the unaided eye or vision correction.
- Able to work at reasonable speed with accuracy
- Able to comprehend English written and verbal instructions, basic drawings
- Basic ability to operate X-Ray equipment and interpret results
- Able to lift up to 15 pounds

Duties of an Inspector I position:

- Under supervision of Inspection Coordinator, perform in-process and final inspection of printed circuit assemblies for defects per IPC-A-610, by means of visual or equipment-assisted inspection (Microscope, X-Ray, A.O.I.).
- Identify defects, mark their location, and give rework instructions to operators.
- Re-inspect corrected defects. Persistence until product is correct.
- Complete traveler paperwork, record findings in department defect log.
- Additional duties as assigned by Inspection Coordinator or Quality Manager.
